Welcome to 'M is for make' an online fabric shop with a handpicked collection of fabrics, sewing patterns and haberdashery, based in Brighton, UK.
'M is for make' started with my own fabric habit, newly acquired when I ventured back into sewing a decade or so after learning how to sew at school. Frustrated by the uninspiring fabrics on the highstreet I discovered a whole new world of fabrics online from exciting designers that I'd never heard of.
I steadily created my own stash of fabric and began to dream about selling those fabrics. So it started with a few bolts of my favourites; my first delivery of fabrics was from Kokka (Japanese fabrics are still amongst my favourites) then the first collection from Cloud 9 fabrics. One thing lead to another and before I knew it, I was running a fabric shop.
I was doing this in my evenings and weekends whilst also working a dreary day job. As the shop steadily grew I began to dream again about 'what if I gave up this job and my new job was to run a fabric shop?'
In 2012 I took the leap and since then 'M is for make' has gone from strength to strength. I choose fabrics with beautiful prints, patterns and colours from the best designers all over the world to create one cohesive collection. Finding sewing patterns that are achievable, wearable, that you will want to make and not leave on a shelf.
A collection that when work is done for the day and I settle infront of my sewing machine, these are the fabrics I dream about creating something with.
